Camping Safety

October 21, 2015 by Danny

Camping is fun when you do it safely. This means that you are going to want to be aware of various wildlife, poisonous plants and other hazards.caution animal attack sign

Tent Camping

When you get your tent in place, everyone should do a perimeter check and note anything that may be hazardous, such as big rocks or logs that could trip you in the dark. This is also a good time to make sure that there are no snakes or similar wildlife hiding out either.

Camping Safety

Here are a few basic camping safety rules for children as well:

  • Don't trip on the guy lines holding up the tent.
  • Don't get too close to the fire.
  • Don't go near the water alone.
  • Always wear a flotation device in canoe or boat.
  • Use the buddy system.

It is also a good idea to equip kids with a flashlight and whistle. If kids are in trouble they can blow their whistle and stay where they are. This allows parents to come and get them without the kids getting lost or in any more trouble than they may already be in.
